To start a business in the U.S. Virgin Islands you will need to obtain a business license from the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (DLCA). DLCA will complete the "One Step" review process with the following government agencies:
- Police Department
- VI Bureau of Internal Revenue (tax clearance)
- Department of Planning and Natural Resources (zoning)
- VI Fire Service
- Department of Health (food related businesses)
Depending on the type of business, you may also be required to obtain permits, clearances, or board certifications before a business license will be issued. Review the steps for obtaining a license on the DLCA website.
Corporations or any business that requires a trade name must first contact the Division of Corporations & Trademarks at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor before applying for a business license.
